Neymar Returns to Brazil National Team After 980 Days, Overcome with Emotion

Neymar made his much-anticipated return to the Brazil national team in a decisive 3-0 victory against Scotland during the World Cup Group C match. After being sidelined for 980 days due to persistent injuries, the Santos forward was unable to hold back tears as the match concluded.

Entering the field in the 75th minute for Matheus Cunha, Neymar showcased his commitment and skill during his nearly 20 minutes on the pitch. He delivered several passes, posed a threat during set pieces, contributed defensively, and even took a shot on goal, saved by Angus Gunn.

Overwhelmed with emotions after the final whistle, Neymar broke down in tears on the field. He later shared the special moment with his children, whom he called to join him on the pitch, as reported by A Bola.

Neymar’s Comeback After Nearly 1,000 Days

The lengthy absence was due to a severe injury sustained on October 18, 2023, during a match against Uruguay in Montevideo, where he tore his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee, keeping him off the field for more than a year.

This marked Neymar’s longest hiatus since his debut for Brazil on October 10, 2010, in a friendly against the United States. Since then, he has become the top scorer in the national team’s history, netting 79 goals in 128 matches.

This World Cup marks Neymar’s fourth appearance, having previously participated in the tournaments of 2014, 2018, and 2022, joining an elite group of Brazilian players who have played in four World Cups, including legends like Pelé and Ronaldo.
