Neymar Under Investigation Amid World Cup Participation

Neymar is currently competing with the Brazilian national team in the World Cup held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, but back home, a significant investigation involving him is underway.
His nomination for the World Cup has sparked considerable debate in Brazil, primarily due to his ongoing recovery from an injury. However, this issue has taken a backseat to a more pressing concern.
Prosecutors Request Neymar’s Contracts with Blaze Betting Company
According to reports from Brazil, Neymar’s troubles are linked to advertising contracts with the betting company Blaze. The Brazilian prosecutor’s office has initiated a civil investigation focused on Blaze’s advertising partnerships with various influencers and prominent celebrities, including Neymar.
Authorities are demanding that Blaze clarify the advertising strategies employed, the messages conveyed by partners like Neymar, and whether the platform was portrayed as a viable source of additional income.
The prosecutor’s office has requested copies of the contracts between Neymar and Blaze, as reported by several Brazilian media outlets. Investigators are looking into the actual content published by Neymar and other advertising partners, as well as the instructions they received from Blaze. They are also assessing if any promises made suggested that gambling could serve as a source of income.
Potential Compensation Claims of €19 Million
According to the office of the prosecutor overseeing the investigation, over 42,000 complaints have been filed against the platform. These complaints pertain to arbitrary account suspensions, withheld funds from clients, potentially abusive contractual clauses, problematic bonus conditions, and adherence to consumer protection regulations.
If the allegations are substantiated, the case may proceed to court. A compensation claim of up to 120 million reais, approximately €19 million, is being considered. Importantly, Neymar has not yet been charged with any wrongdoing and is preparing to participate in the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Neymar will be part of the squad for the upcoming match against Scotland, scheduled for Wednesday night at 01:00 Romania time, in Group C.
