CFR Cluj President Declares Club Financially Stable Amid Transfer Plans

CFR Cluj President Iuliu Mureșan has stated that the club has resolved all financial issues related to FIFA claims and dismissed any scenarios of insolvency or bankruptcy. He revealed that the team is set to acquire three to four new players before the preseason camp, while ongoing negotiations are in place for several significant transfers.
Cluj has entered a new era with the arrival of Portuguese coach Antonio Folha. During the presentation conference, Mureșan emphasized the club’s recent financial difficulties, which had previously led to a transfer ban.
Mureșan Confirms Financial Resolutions
“All issues regarding FIFA claims have been resolved. Many saw us as dead, buried, bankrupt, finished! We made payments at the last or second to last moment. We found resources and resolved these matters. I hope this news is disappointing for some, but we have overcome our problems. CFR will not die or disappear. We are not entering bankruptcy or insolvency,” Mureșan stated.
He is confident that the team will significantly strengthen for the upcoming Superligă season, announcing that “we will bring in players next week.”
“We’re expecting three or four new players before we leave for training camp. We have several situations under discussion and a list of players we’ve been negotiating with,” he added.
Korenica and Keita May Depart CFR Cluj
Mihai Popa, whose contract with CFR is nearing its end and who has received offers from Poland, is anticipated to return to the team instead of joining Wisla Krakow.
“He did not report for reunion because I allowed it. We expect him to come back since he has a contract until the end of the month. I spoke with him, and he mentioned that he will only play for CFR in Romania. We will see what happens,” Mureșan commented.
Additionally, he confirmed that “we paid Huja’s clause and extended his contract for two more years, until 2028” and mentioned ongoing discussions regarding Korenica and Keita for potential foreign transfers.
Supporters Reluctant About Cluj Arena
Months ago, club officials communicated with the Cluj County Council to play at the rival Cluj Arena. However, the situation seems to have shifted.
“We insisted on playing at Cluj Arena. Many fans called me, sent messages indicating they would not buy season tickets if we played there. With a 90% probability, we will continue to play at our own stadium next season. We will also compete here in European cups,” Mureșan stated.
“We Can Qualify for Group Stage”
Furthermore, in the second preliminary round of the Conference League, CFR Cluj will face the winner of the match between FC Alashkert and FC Elimai. The first leg is scheduled for July 23 away, with the return leg on July 30 in Gruia.
“I am optimistic that we will have teams in the European group stages, and we can indeed reach the Conference League groups. It will be tough in the third round and playoffs, but qualification is attainable. I just want to avoid finishing in the 13th-14th places in the Superligă and to compete for the playoff from the early stages,” Mureșan concluded.
