“I keep seeing my name invoked in the camp of those who set up the PNL plot.” Liberal leader rejects accusations of treason

The president of the Iași County Council, the liberal Costel Alexe, says that he is with Ilie Bolojan and firmly rejects the rumors regarding his support for the designated prime minister Adrian Veștea.
“My position was clear from the very beginning. I am with Ilie Bolojan and the decision taken by the PNL. Just like the entire PNL Iasi branch. We are not breaking ranks,” Costel Alexe wrote on his Facebook page. He also said that he does not understand why “he keeps seeing his name invoked in the camp of those who hatched the plot against the PNL”.
The liberal emphasized that the 20 years spent in the party taught him that “loyalty is not a coat that you put on when the wind blows in the right direction and throw it away when the storm comes.” Costel Alexe added that true political loyalty is demonstrated in difficult moments.
“We do not betray our principles, our colleagues, or the party. Let it be very clear: I am and will remain with the PNL, with true liberalism,” he added.
Costel Alexe's reaction comes after information appeared online that he would betray the party and that he could support the designated prime minister Adrian Veştea.
After the nomination of Adrian Veștea as prime minister, some liberals, including party president Ilie Bolojan, accused an attempt to break the PNL and a hostile act launched by president Nicușor Dan.
“We are dealing with a plot, betrayal and unqualified interference in the internal life of a political party,” said Ciprian Ciuc, while Alexandru Muraru called the appointment of Adrian Veștea “a cunning move”. The mayor of Reșița, Ioan Popa, announced that he will officially propose to the National Political Bureau the “exclusion from PNL” of Veștea.
However, there are also liberals who support the nomination of Adrian Veștea, considering that a prime minister from the PNL is an opportunity for the party. Among them are Vice President Alexandru Popa, PNL leader Ilfov Hubert Thuma, District 1 Mayor George Tuță and Senator Daniel Fenechiu.
