In Switzerland, at a referendum on June 14, they did not support the proposal to limit immigration and set the country's population at 10 million, the Swiss public broadcaster SRF reported.
Approximately 54.8% of voters voted against the initiative of the right-wing conservative party SVP. A majority vote of citizens and cantons was required for its adoption.
Supporters argued that an annual influx of roughly 100,000 migrants was putting pressure on the housing market, transportation and social infrastructure.
Opponents warned that the restrictions would jeopardize relations with the EU, agreements on free movement and access to foreign labor needed in medicine, construction and services.
