Poland's Kamil Majchrzak (29 years old, 109 ATP) continues his remarkable run at the ATP 250 tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch. He defeated Daniil Medvedev (29 years old, 8 ATP) in the semi-finals and qualified for the first ATP final of his career.
After beating the main favorite, Felix Auger-Aliassime, in the quarters, Majchrzak produced another huge surprise in the Netherlands.
Big win against Medvedev
The game started extremely balanced. Both served excellently, and the first set was decided on a tie-break after Majchrzak missed a set point in the tenth game. The Pole did not blame the shock, resisted the pressure and prevailed 7-4 in the tie-break.
However, the Pole did not give in and completely changed the course of the match in the second set. The first break of the match came in the third game, when Majchrzak managed to break the Russian's serve. Another break followed, and the Pole quickly broke away at 4-1.
Daniill, known for the moments of complete collapse, never returned to the game and succumbed after exactly 90 minutes of play.
He got his revenge after Brisbane
The two had met only once before the duel in Holland. Earlier in the year, Medvedev defeated Majchrzak in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Brisbane after a three-set match.
This time, the Pole got his revenge and managed to eliminate one of the favorites of the competition.
First career ATP final
For Kamil Majchrzak, qualifying in the last act represents the biggest performance of his career. The Pole will fight for his first ATP title against Australian Alex de Minaur on Sunday.
The number two favorite of the competition defeated the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the other semifinal, score 6-4, 6-0. The ATP 250 final in 's-Hertogenbosch is scheduled for Sunday, June 14.
It was without a doubt my best match and the most precious win of my career.
– declared Kamil Majchrzak immediately after the triumph against Felix Auger-Aliassime. (The Pole had eliminated the main favorite of the tournament and, at the same time, the fourth player in the world)
