Trump called off “very strong strikes” on Iran. What's behind the sudden change in plans?

US President Donald Trump on June 11 canceled the “very strong strikes” he had announced against Iran due to the approval by the two sides of the final points of the agreement. He wrote about this in Truth Social.

Earlier that day, the head of the White House wrote that the United States would attack Iran on the night of June 12, and would also seize the Iranian Kharg Island and other oil infrastructure facilities “in the near future.”

Speaking at the White House, Trump said the final terms of the agreement were approved by “all parties involved,” including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt and others.

“Naval blockade [Ормузского пролива] will remain in full force and effect until the completion of this agreement,” Trump added.

The American president said that an agreement with Iran could be signed as early as this weekend.

According to him, the agreement with Iran excludes Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. “And the most important thing is that we have an agreement that Iran will never have nuclear weapons. That is why we had to go through all this. It was a big, very big deal. But we will have a signing soon, the documents are almost ready, so we’ll see,” Trump said.

According to him, the signing of the agreement could take place this weekend in Europe.

“I won't be able to be there, but J.D., the vice president, will be there, as will others: [специальный посланник Трампа] Steve Witkoff [зять главы Белого дома] Jared [Кушнер]”Trump added.
