The inauguration of the FIFA World Cup in Mexico was not without riots. On Thursday, during the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, demonstrators clashed with security forces in front of the Azteca Stadium. Protesters threw stones at the police, overturned and set cars on fire. The authorities had to close part of the metro and tighten controls at the airport.
