After 3 games played in the NBA Finals, the score was 2-1 for the New York Knicks, and the rule followed was the following: “guests win every time”. That pattern seemed to be followed in Game 4, also played in the famous Madison Square Garden, but what followed was the biggest comeback in a final in the history of the North American League.
New York Knicks, comeback from -29 points in Game 4 of the NBA Finals
Without Donald Trump at the lodgethe New York Knicks fans were fully focused on putting pressure on their opponents and especially on Victor Wembanyama, the Texans' superstar. That didn't seem to affect the San Antonio Spurs, who scored 41 points in the first quarter and 76 points by halftime.
So the visitors were leading 76-49 after 24 minutes. In the 3rd quarter, Spurs' lead increased to 29 pointsbut an incredible scenario followed. The Knicks played much better on defense, produced more and more efficiently on offense, and the deficit began to shrink.
By the end of the third quarter, the hosts had recovered 12 points, but the gap was still 15 points. A real battle ensued in the decisive act, when the fans began to feel that they could witness a miracle.
The difference dropped to under 10 points, then to under 5 and, on the last attack of the match, The San Antonio Spurs still had a one-point advantage: 106-105. Jalen Brunson, the Knicks' best player, took the offensive responsibility and shot from distance, missed, but OG Anunoby was alert, recovered the ball and put it in the basket in the final secondskicking off the celebration in New York.
