In Uzhur, a bank manager helped prevent the theft of 1.5 million rubles from an 86-year-old pensioner. This was reported to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
The head of a financial organization contacted the police duty station. She said that an elderly woman came to the branch and tried to withdraw a large amount of cash from the ATM. During a conversation with the client, the bank employee noticed that the pensioner was very worried. The woman realized that she could act on instructions from telephone scammers and offered to stop operations until the police arrived.
Arriving officers found out that the day before the pensioner had received a call from an unknown person. He said that they were allegedly trying to steal her money from the bank. The woman was asked to withdraw funds and hand them over to a courier, who was supposed to take the cash to “law enforcement officers” for safe storage. The police prepared a dummy money and organized the arrest. The courier was caught after he arrived at the pensioner’s home and received a package.
Investigators opened a criminal case of attempted fraud. All participants in the scheme are now being identified.
