Midfielder Robert Ion, 25, has ended his dealings with the Belgians from Olympic Charleroi, where he evolved in the last yearand could return to the Superliga this summer. Contacted by Gazetă, the football champion with the Lighthouse in 2023 announced his intentions, after the journalist Emanuel Roșu had revealed that there is interest in him from Romania, but also from the Belgian second division.

The former youth international will no longer continue at the Charleroi club, especially since his team was relegated at the end of the recently concluded season. Asked about the future destination, Robert Ion confesses that he would be tempted by a return to the first league of Romania.

“At the moment, I'm enjoying a bit of 'home.' I don't know yet, but it is possible that I want to sign here, in Romania. I have offers, yes, I also have from abroadalthough some of them seem a bit far, and I'm still thinking about others. I would like something at home or close to home,” said the footballer, without naming the teams interested in his services.

“Some offers are a bit far and I don't know if it's worth the effort,” added the player who was also in FCSB's court at one point.

Gazeta also talked to Robert Ion in November 2025, shortly after he signed in Belgium: “I was offered the number 10 shirt because it was in line with my position on the field and my qualities. The plan is to make the step towards a high-level team,” he said at that time.

Robert Ion, about his one-year adventure in the Belgian second division: “Very good footballing level”

The footballer characterized his one-year experience in Belgium in laudatory terms, even though his team, in which the Romanian Claudiu Florică was also a shareholder, was relegated to the third echelon.

“I was both sad and happy at the same time that a difficult year ended, in which things were not right for the team, even though I had very good developments in the second part of the seasonwhen I was used in my position (no offensive midfielder).

I am left with good things and less good things, as with any experience, the first for me abroad.

Very good football level, instead! Good pace and footballers who played for top teams in Europe, Nainggolan, Colin Dagba, colleagues of mine who I got very close to and who played in Bilbao, Atletico Madrid: Jonas Ramalho, Iago Herrerin”, said Robert Ion, for Gazetă.
