A close friend of Nicușor Dan reveals one of the president's obsessions: “He talks about this all the time, it bothered me sometimes”

Matei Păun, one of the close associates of President Nicusor Dan, stated that political stability was one of the major concerns of the head of state in the last year and that even he was bothered by this sometimes.
“He is a person focused on procedures, a person focused on details, a person focused on institutions and yes, who thinks in time, that is, he does not play short, so to speak. He is a person with a long-term vision”, Matei Păun described Nicuşor Dan in the Vorbitorincii podcast, according to News.ro.
He pointed out that Dan is the same one he met a decade ago.
“He has a very rigorous way of proceeding, of perceiving things. He is a modest person,” said the entrepreneur and former banker Matei Păun, also former head of Nicușor Dan's campaign.
Asked how Nicusor Dan behaves when he is dissatisfied, Matei Păun answered: “He is more gloomy, you can read on his face that he is dissatisfied, he is a person who does not shout a lot but you can read this on him”.
“He's always talking” about political stability
“I, what I have determined in the last year, is a clear concern on his part about what political stability means. He talks about this all the time, he always wanted this, honestly it bothered me at certain times, because we are human and it's hard to remind you that you are, in essence, held hostage in a political system that does not allow you to dream of certain reforms, you know what I mean. It's frustrating this”, says Matei Păun.
Asked if President Nicusor Dan is preparing for a possible suspension in Parliament, Matei Păun replied that he had not heard of such a concern of the head of state.
“I think I can say that we have a friendship, certainly a long collaboration, for at least 10 years. (…) I am not Nicusor Dan's envoy, I do not represent him, I do not speak on his behalf,” Matei Păun also said, noting that he worked as a volunteer on Nicusor Dan's campaigns and projects.
He emphasized that it is not a “particularly close relationship”, that he has “a familiarity” with Nicuşor Dan, also showing that he does not talk to the president every day, but that he has kept in touch with him.
“He didn't want to start a jihad against the PSD”
Also, Matei Păun stated that if the president were to reject the PSD, as some of his voters are asking him to do, he would make the PSD come closer to the AUR.
He admits that some of those who voted for the president did not vote for him “with an open heart”, but gave “a useful vote”, not one for the person Nicusor Dan.
Matei Păun is of the opinion that some of Dan's voters have an old fight with the PSD, some have “a personal fight” that they projected onto the president with their vote.
“No way, he didn't want to be president, I think, to start a jihad against the PSD or other parties. He wanted to be president to achieve certain goals of reform, of public policies…. I know that for him the area of justice is extremely important, if there is a subject that is really dear to him, it is the subject of justice. I was told that he is one of the most skilled people in the country regarding at Administrative Law. He is a person who alone has led highly complex lawsuits against real estate developers with teams financed by many lawyers. He understands very well the shortcomings of the legal system, he knows them much better than we do,” said the president's close associate.
“The idea that Nicusor would make a pact with PSD, a total absurdity”
The businessman categorically rejects the idea according to which the appointment of the chiefs of the big prosecutor's offices was made so that the president would meet the expectations of those from the PSD.
“This idea that Nicusor would be the man of the PSD, for me is a total absurdity, a total absurdity. (…) It is clear that for some time, in fact from the beginning, the president has been under media attack from many directions: that he wanders on the red carpet, that he no longer knows his name, that I don't know what…. Lord, these are nonsense, they are elementary nonsense! For me, the idea that Nicusor would do a pact with the PSD is a total absurdity. His job is to negotiate politically with all the parties. We would like, as I said, for Nicusor to start a jihad against the PSD. I think he would do nothing but push the PSD into an alliance with AUR. I, to be the PSD and to be attacked by the president, not to be taken into account, not to be respected by the president, I would clearly think of an alternative, this seems natural and logical to me”, argues Matei Păun.
