An unexpected moment, but fortunately without consequences, marked Tuesday night's friendly match between Hungary and Kazakhstan, which ended with the Hungarians winning 3-1 at the Nagyerdei Stadium in Debrecen. A suspended camera fell on the field and caused panic among those present. The object hit the lawn hard and came close to injuring a nearby person.
Images captured from the stands show the camera, a “spider cam” attached to four cables, billowing smoke shortly before it crashed onto the grass from the top of the stand.

No one was injured in the incident and after the object was removed, the game continued. The Hungarians were routed but managed to come back and claim victory.
The same technology, with high-altitude cameras suspended on wires, is to be used at the World Cup, which kicks off tomorrow night at 10pm with the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.
After the incident in Hungary, right on the eve of the World Cup, it remains to be seen whether the organizers will make any decision regarding this type of cameras, to avoid a similar event occurring at the final tournament.
