Summer residents, this is the last car: what to plant before June 15 – harvest until frost

It is believed that with the last days of May it is time to finish gardening. In fact, in the Middle Zone, June is a key month for the second sowing wave. She does not cancel the May plantings, but picks up the baton so that fresh vegetables and herbs are on the table until the cold weather.

What to plant in June for excellent results?

cucumbers. In early June, early self-pollinating hybrids are sown directly into the ground. In warm soil, seedlings appear in 3–4 days, and cucumbers appear in 40 days. In September, arcs with spunbond are placed over the bed: this extends the harvest until the October frosts.

Tomatoes. For autumn, spare seedlings of ultra-early low-growing varieties (sown at the end of April) are planted in the greenhouse. In closed ground, young bushes have time to please with fruits before the November cold. Plus: strong young immunity helps them escape the August blight.

Potato. Only early and ultra-early varieties are suitable – those that ripen in 50–60 days. The advantage of the method: protection from the first wave of the Colorado potato beetle, which peaks in June. Tubers are also laid in August, when the destructive summer heat subsides, writes RIA Novosti.

In addition, potatoes ripen by October in the most suitable weather for harvesting. The skin becomes rough, but the tubers do not ripen in the hot soil. Therefore, they lie perfectly until spring, do not dry out and do not germinate ahead of time.

Carrots and beets. Early ripening varieties sown in the first half of June ripen by October. Root crops do not crack due to rain, do not overripe and gain a lot of sugar. They store well in winter – unlike May ones, which become fibrous by autumn.

Daikon and radish. Spring plantings quickly disappear due to the long days. And sowing at the end of June, when the daylight is waning, forces the plants to spend energy only on large and juicy root crops.

Peking and cauliflower. Early ripening hybrids, planted in the second half of June, set heads of cabbage in cool August–September. This saves Chinese cabbage from flowering, and the cauliflower remains white, dense and does not crumble.

Dill and cilantro. For June sowing, take only bush varieties. They do not bloom longer and produce dense greenery from the root.

Spinach and arugula. Sow them in partial shade or after germination, cover them with black spunbond every evening from 18:00 until the morning. With this mode, they do not shoot and remain tender.

Salad conveyor. Sow the seeds in well-drained furrows, and mulch the seedlings with mowed grass. This will protect the roots from overheating and retain moisture, otherwise the salad will begin to taste bitter.
