Clogged kitchen sinks are a common problem, especially after cooking or washing dishes. Over time, grease, food debris and detergents form a dense plug that prevents water from escaping. Many people immediately run for aggressive solutions or call a plumber. But there is a simple and safe way to handle it yourself using what you already have in the kitchen.
Baking soda, vinegar and hot water are a trio of natural helpers that soften fat deposits, dissolve organic residues and eliminate odors from the siphon.
How to use:
- Boil the kettle.
- Pour 1/2 cup baking soda into the drain hole.
- Immediately pour 100 ml of vinegar (9%).
- Immediately close the drain with a plug or rag. This will increase the pressure inside the pipe.
- Wait 15-20 minutes for the mixture to foam and work.
- Carefully pour boiling water from the kettle. It will wash away softened deposits.
If the water drains slowly, repeat the procedure after an hour. For prevention, do this once every 1-2 weeks, and blockages will no longer be a problem.
This method is safe for metal and plastic pipes, does not emit toxic fumes and is cheaper than any chemical.
