Over 600 video cameras monitor the streets and schools in Sector 4. Daniel Băluță: “We are increasing the safety of our community even more”

The City Hall of Sector 4 has put into operation a new intelligent video surveillance system, consisting of more than 600 cameras located in key points in the sector, which transmit images in real time to a modern monitoring center. The authorities claim that the investment will contribute to increased public safety and faster interventions in case of incidents.
According to a press release from the District 4 City Hall, the monitoring system is operational 24 hours a day and covers the main traffic arteries, intersections, areas around rehabilitated blocks, as well as other spaces with intense traffic.
Special attention was paid to places frequented by children. Thus, parks, playgrounds and areas in the vicinity of educational institutions now benefit from permanent monitoring.
“I think one of the most important obligations we have as a local government is to give people safety. To know that when they leave the house, when they take their children to school or when the little ones play in the park, they are in a protected environment”, said the mayor of Sector 4, Daniel Băluță.
The mayor stated that the new Data and Monitoring Center complements the investments made in recent years in educational infrastructure, green spaces and the modernization of neighborhoods.
“Today we take another step in that direction and launch the Sector 4 Monitoring and Data Center, a project built to further increase the safety of our community and help us respond more quickly when needed. This system is not just about video cameras. It means the ability to see what's happening on the ground more quickly, identify risk situations and relay that information to those who can respond.” said Daniel Baluta.
According to the local administration, the entire camera network is connected to a specialized dispatch center, where local police officers can watch the images in real time and quickly report any incidents. The system is also connected with the competent institutions of the state, to facilitate the rapid exchange of information and operative intervention.
The general director of the Capital Police, chief police chief Bogdan Berechet, also participated in the inauguration event, who highlighted the preventive role of the new system.
“I consider the initiative taken by the Sector 4 City Hall to expand the number of surveillance cameras at the sector level to be auspicious. We are talking here about a partnership between state institutions, namely the Capital Police and a local public authority, the Sector 4 City Hall”, said Bogdan Berechet.
The head of the Capital Police emphasized that the system will have both a preventive role, by discouraging antisocial behavior, and an operational one.
“These surveillance cameras have a double role for the Capital Police: a preventive one, to create a climate of safety for citizens and to discourage antisocial acts, but also a reactive-combat one, i.e. quick intervention where certain situations are reported”, said Berechet.
The new Data and Monitoring Center operates on Olteniței Road no. 37-39, in a space owned by the local authority. The building previously housed an office of the General Directorate of Taxes and Local Taxes Sector 4, being converted after the digitization of the services offered to taxpayers.
According to the Sector 4 City Hall, the project is part of the strategy to increase public safety, the sector being indicated by the local administration as the safest in the Capital, according to the latest report of the Bucharest City Police on public safety.
