The reference and information publication “Streets of the City of Birobidzhan: According to Documents of the State Archive of the Jewish Autonomous Region” (0+) introduces readers to the past and present of the city of Birobidzhan, provides documents of little-known and previously unpublished documents and photographs of the state archive of the region.
The book contains information that by Decree of the Presidium of the Birobidzhan City Council dated June 9, 1936 No. 127, Soviet Square was renamed Lenin Square.

The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) on June 9, 1939 wrote about the forest wealth of our region, about the value of various species of trees and shrubs:
“Our region spreads over an area of about 4 million hectares, that is, it is 25% larger than countries such as Holland or Belgium. The region’s riches are great and varied. Powerful reserves of minerals – iron, coal, marble, peat and so on, deep rivers are rich in fish, the almost virgin taiga abounds with valuable fur-bearing animals. One of the most important natural resources of the region is the forest. The forest is fuel, houses, furniture, carriages and, in addition, the most valuable chemical raw materials. From wood and its waste – bark, twigs, sawdust – they make alcohol, artificial silk, cellulose, paper, film, resin, tar, dyes, tannins, medicines, acetic acid, turpentine, wood sugar and many other important products … “

The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” wrote on June 9, 1940 that for the production of consumer goods, a special workshop was created at the “Birakan Marble” artel, in which five craftsmen work. The workshop is producing writing instruments (ink sets made of marble). A proposal is received from the employees of the artel that it would be possible to organize the production of figurines and the production of stands for table lamps. Marble art products are in great demand.
In the same newspaper tells about the work of the “Proletary” artel in the village of Birakan. The artel employs 42 people and has only two production buildings. The artel consists of five workshops: shoemaking, tailoring, confectionery, soft drinks and a hairdresser. The artel produces exclusively consumer goods. The shoe and tailoring shops sew new shoes and clothes and repair old ones. The confectionery shop and the soft drink shop produce baked goods, kvass and fruit drinks.

The newspaper “Birobidzhanskaya Zvezda” on June 9, 1948, in the section “Across our region” wrote that the Lenin District Executive Committee held a five-day seminar for secretaries of rural councils. The seminar participants listened to lectures and conducted practical classes on some issues of the work of village councils. The secretaries familiarized themselves in detail with the procedure for preparing documents for assigning benefits to single mothers, drawing up award documents for mothers with many children, and registering acts of civil status. Village council workers exchanged their work experience.
The newspaper also reported that More than 20 different names of flowers are grown in the nursery of the city improvement department. Four years ago, the nursery received five roots of a rare species of dahlia; now this flower has been propagated to 20 thousand pieces. Seeds of phlox, purslane, petunia, snapdragon and other flowers were obtained from the Yalta Botanical Garden. In total, the Birobidzhan nursery grows half a million flowers. They will be planted in flower beds of city squares and partially sold to city organizations.
A new bakery has come into operation in the city of Obluchye, designed to bake 12 tons of bread per day. The bakery is well equipped and the first baked bread is of high quality. With the launch of the new bakery, the needs of the population of Obluchye for bread will be fully satisfied.

The Election Commission of the Jewish Autonomous Region was formed by Resolution of the Legislative Assembly of the Jewish Autonomous Region dated June 9, 1995 No. 32/146.
The Election Commission of the Jewish Autonomous Region consists of 12 members. Half of them are appointed by the Legislative Assembly of the Jewish Autonomous Region, the other half by the governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region.
The Election Commission of the Jewish Autonomous Region operates on a permanent basis, its term of office is 5 years. The Election Commission of the Jewish Autonomous Region organizes elections to federal bodies of state power, a referendum of the Russian Federation, a referendum of the region, elections to the legislative and representative body of state power of the region, in conducting local referendums, coordinating and providing methodological guidance during the conduct of municipal elections in the region.
The Election Commission of the Jewish Autonomous Region exercises control over ensuring guarantees of equality of parliamentary parties when covering their activities by regional public television and radio channels with the participation of parliamentary parties, the regional branch of the federal executive body authorized to exercise control and supervision functions in the field of media.
The activities of the election commission of the Jewish Autonomous Region are carried out on the basis of collegiality, free, open and public discussion and resolution of issues within its competence.
