In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a 43-year-old resident of Ilansky is suspected of stealing electricity worth 1.2 million rubles.
According to the prosecutor’s office, illegal cryptocurrency mining was discovered after a fire that occurred in one of the city’s buildings in March. During the fire extinguishing, a crypto farm was found there – 6 ASIC miners, a router, equipment for uninterruptible power supply and a homemade system for connecting to the power grid.
It turned out that from November 2025 to March 2026, the equipment operated in circumvention of the established energy supply procedure.
“At the same time, the man did not manage to make money on cryptocurrency, but he accumulated an impressive electricity bill. According to calculations by power engineers, the volume of unmetered consumption amounted to more than 97 thousand kWh, and the damage to the resource supply organization exceeded 1.2 million rubles. It was previously established that the cause of the fire was poor connection of equipment to the electrical network under high load. In other words, the crypto farm was the first to mine not digital coins, but a short circuit,” the prosecutor’s office said.
Based on this fact, a criminal case has been opened for fraud on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), the investigation is ongoing.
