USR announces that it will talk with Prime Minister-designate Eugen Tomac. Requests made for support

“The formula that deserves USR's support is a government that includes USR ministers,” USR president Dominic Fritz announced shortly after President Nicușor Dan appointed Eugen Tomac as prime minister.

“Out of respect for the president and with responsibility for the country, we will talk to Prime Minister-designate Eugen Tomac, a respectable party president and MEP,” said Fritz in a press release.

USR Terms

Fritz reiterated within the party that USR should not form a new coalition with PSD as a result of their decision to dismiss the Ilie Bolojan government.

“The USR enters the discussion with the clear lines that we have decided. No formula with the PSD or what resembles the PSD is acceptable,” stated Fritz.

One of the conditions set by the party to support the future government is to keep the ministers USR had in the Bolojan cabinet.

“Today we are convinced that the formula that deserves USR's support is a government that includes USR ministers. All four, Diana Buzoianu, Radu Miruță, Oana Țoiu and Irineu Darău, have demonstrated courage, competence and a real will to reform”, Fritz also states.

“No matter how well-intentioned the technocrat ministers are, without political commitment, a new government will not have the power to do the necessary clean-up,” he concludes.

Tomac announces a “technical government”

Nicușor Dan announced on Wednesday the appointment of Eugen Tomac as prime minister. Eugen Tomac, who, according to HotNews sources, resigned on Wednesday evening from the leadership of PMP, stated that he will present to the Parliament a proposal for a “technical government, not a political one”.

According to Article 103 of the Constitution, Tomac has 10 days to ask the deputies and senators for a vote of confidence on the government program and the entire list of the Government. For investiture, the proposed cabinet needs 233 votes, a parliamentary arithmetic that seems difficult at first sight for a prime minister-designate who does not have a majority behind him at the time of nomination.
