The “tavern” from Șosea, where Jean Moscopol, the superstar of interwar Bucharest, sang, is falling apart. After 1948, the building became the shop of the Russian occupiers

Casa “Vișoiu” is located not even 200 meters from the Arc de Triumf and is one of the oldest preserved restaurants from the interwar period of Bucharest.

The “familiar local Vișoiu-Şosea” was open until 5 in the morning and we can only imagine the world and life back then. An advertisement from 1939 tells us that Jean Moscopol sang here, accompanied by the “virtuoso” Nicolae Cireș.

The building appears to be abandoned now, and although it is in an advanced state of disrepair, it retains something of its former nobility. The decorations on the facade, the details, the round shape of the windows, the entire elevated composition of the building tells us that this house had a significance in the life of the city.

Read, on B365.ro, about the history of the “Vișoiu-Şosea” restaurant.
