The mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, has a surprising prediction regarding the winner of the World Cup

The mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, a football enthusiast, offered his prediction for the World Cup, which will soon begin on the North American continent (June 11 – July 19, 2026). He believes that Morocco will become the first African nation to win the World Cup, after a final with France.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani admits, in an interview for The Guardian, that he does not follow football every day, but remains a fervent fan of the game with the round ball, a relatively rare profile in the American political sphere, which is more oriented towards American football, basketball or baseball, reports News.ro.

He is a declared supporter of the Arsenal team, recently crowned champions of England after a 22-year wait. In recent months, Mamdani notably attended the Eid al-Adha prayer in the Bronx, wearing a kurta in the colors of the London club, and at the beginning of the year he organized an evening dedicated to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in a municipal court.

Beyond a simple prediction, Zohran Mamdani's projection resonates with one of the greatest ambitions of African football. If Morocco lifts the World Cup trophy in 2026, it would become the first African nation in history to win the title. More importantly, the Atlas Lions would also be the first representatives of the continent to reach the World Cup final.
