Real Madrid is currently electing its president, in an election considered historic for the blanco club. At the polls are the current president, Florentino Perez (79 years old), and the businessman Enrique Riquelme (37 years old), who tried to cause one of the biggest surprises in the recent history of the club.

The stakes are huge: if Perez retains his position, Jose Mourinho is to be officially installed on Real Madrid's technical bench.

The first estimates give Florentino Perez the clear winner

While the voting process is underway in Ciudad Real Madrid in Valdebebas, the publication Marca is carrying out an unofficial survey of the voting members throughout the day.

According to the first estimates published by Spanish journalists, Florentino Perez leads the way.

Estimate Brand:

  • Florentino Perez – 65.95%

  • Enrique Riquelme – 34.05%

The figures do not represent the official results of the elections, but only the trends observed by Marca during the voting. The publication said it will update the data hourly as members continue to vote.

Real Madrid members continue to vote at the club's base in Valdebebas, and the result of the election is expected during the night. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, in the event of a victory for Florentino Perez, Jose Mourinho would be officially announced as the new coach of the “galacticos” as early as Monday.

The first electoral confrontation after two decades

Today's election brings to an end an unprecedented period in the club's history. It is the first time since July 2, 2006 that Real Madrid members have the opportunity to choose between two different candidacies. Ramon Calderon then replaced Juan Palacios before Florentino Perez returned to manage the club in June 2009.

Since then, the Spanish businessman has dominated the administrative scene at the 'Santiago Bernabeu' and led one of the most successful periods in the club's history.

Haaland and Mourinho, the big themes of the campaign

The electoral campaign also brought spectacular promises from the two candidates. Florentino Perez let it be understood that Jose Mourinho would return to the technical bench of Madrid if he gets a new mandate.

On the other side, Enrique Riquelme tried to produce the hit of the campaign and announced that he will try to transfer Erling Haaland and Rodri to the “Santiago Bernabeu”.

The enthusiasm generated by the promise, however, was quickly tempered by Alfie Haaland, the father of the Norwegian striker, who denied the existence of any discussions.

“It sounds very interesting, but it is not true. I wish both candidates the best of luck in the elections for the presidency of Real Madrid“, he declared.
