In the 65th minute of the friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine, Christian Eriksen (34 years old) put his hand to his heart and collapsed on the field. The game was abandoned at the score of 2-1.
Eriksen started in the match played in Odense. It was the 65th minute when he launched himself under pressure near the opponent's box. The opponent passed, Eriksen stopped the run, and a few moments later he suddenly put his hands to his heart and collapsed on the field.
The match was stopped immediately, and the medical team intervened promptly.
The Danish midfielder appears to be thankfully out of danger. “He is aware and feels good under these circumstances“, the Danish Federation sent.
The referee decided not to restart the game.
Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch again
Eriksen fell on the pitch once more, in the match between Denmark and Finland at EURO 2020, held on 12 June 2021. At that time he was rushed to hospital, where he was stabilized.
After that episode he was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and was able to continue his career. 5 years after that, he experienced heart problems again.
Eriksen is currently registered at Wolfsburg, a team just relegated from the Bundesliga. He has one more season left on his contract, but this alarming new episode may end his career prematurely.
