On the night of June 7, a drone from the aggressor country Russia damaged a nuclear facility near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This was reported by the press service of NNEGC Energoatom.
“On June 7, 2026, at 2.10 am, as a result of a hit by an enemy unmanned aerial vehicle at the site of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility (CSNFS), the container reception building (spent nuclear fuel was not stored there) was partially destroyed. The fire center with an area of 40 m² was promptly localized and completely eliminated,” the statement says.
According to the company, there were no injuries among personnel. The radiation situation at the Central Nuclear Spreading Station site remains within normal limits.
“Another attack on a nuclear infrastructure facility has once again demonstrated to the whole world the true face of the Kremlin regime, which deliberately creates threats to nuclear and radiation safety. Russia continues to act as a terrorist state and a nuclear terrorist, neglecting international law and the safety of millions of people,” Energoatom emphasized, assuring further continuous monitoring of the situation and interaction with all responsible government services.
The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalenko, published a photo of the consequences of the shelling.
“Footage of the destruction at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, where the Russian Federation struck a spent nuclear fuel storage facility, is being shown by Energoatom. Well, as predicted, all the lies of the Russians about the attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, which they themselves invented, ended with a real attack on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Not the first, by the way. Again, an attempt to intimidate everyone with a nuclear disaster,” he wrote under the photo.
