Former US First Lady Jill Biden has released her memoirs entitled “View from the East Wing”. In the book's final chapter, she detailed a frosty meeting with her successor, current First Lady Melania Trump, during the inauguration of her husband, US President Donald Trump, on January 20, 2025. The editors of the Independent read the book and summarized the most frank confessions of the wife of former US President Joe Biden.
Describing that cold day, Biden's wife admitted that even her choice of outfit was made with the goal of pleasing the Trumps. Despite obvious efforts, the meeting between the two couples turned out to be particularly awkward. As the Trumps arrived at the White House steps in their motorcade, the Bidens exchanged greetings with their successors and took the obligatory photo before heading to the tea party.
Jill Biden and Melania Trump then traveled together in a limousine to the ceremony at the US Capitol, accompanied by a member of the inaugural committee. Recalling this trip, the former first lady emphasized that it was one of her few personal meetings with Trump's wife. Jill Biden suggested that the tense atmosphere stemmed from Trump's wife accusing Joe Biden of having her private premises searched by the FBI at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in 2022.
Biden's wife admitted that the conversation in the car did not go well from the very beginning – Trump's wife answered questions demonstratively briefly.
