Rafael Leao (26 years old), the left winger of AC Milan, said without hesitation that he wants to transfer.
In a recent interview, the “Rossoneri” striker emphasized the need to start a new challenge in his career. He said he would like to play in the Premier League or La Liga.
“I need a new challenge. I've already won two trophies in Italy and I've been here for a while. It's a growing championship, but for my style of football, The Premier League or La Liga would better showcase my talent and help me progress as a player.
If the opportunity arose to play in the Premier League, I would be very happy. I think there I could measure my talent with players of a very high level,” said the Portuguese, author of 10 goals and 3 assists in 31 matches this season.
Leao also analyzed the team's disappointing season: “It was a difficult season. We didn't qualify for the Champions League. I played injured for 4-5 months, suffering from pubalgia, and in a position that wasn't mine. The tactical system didn't help me. I felt like I could make a difference, but the way the team played didn't allow me to do that. In the end, it gets exhausting.”
The striker also gave details about his preferred role on the pitch: “As a winger, after dribbling, I have more time to think whether to shoot, dribble again or cross. But playing as the second tip, I'm closer to the goal and I have to be more concrete: either give a decisive pass or shoot. It's a detail that I have to work on. After all, today's football is based on numbers, and this is the last step that I is missing”.
“Am I predictable in the lane? Teams have adapted. When the ball reaches the wing, two or three defenders are already coming. By changing the position from the lane to the second tip or central areas, I get two to three times closer to the goal during the match, then come back to the side. This makes my game more unpredictable,” concluded Leao, according to TMW.
Leao arrived at AC Milan in 2019, when he was bought from Lille for 50 million euros. He collected 291 games, 80 goals and 65 assists in the shirt of the Italians.
