UDMR will decide after consultations if it supports the Tomac government: “Romania needs a solid parliamentary majority”

Kelemen Hunor said on Thursday evening with the UDMR that he will decide whether to support the investiture of the future government after analyzing the government program and the list of ministers proposed by Prime Minister Eugen Tomac. The UDMR leader reiterated that a technocratic executive without a parliamentary majority does not represent a suitable solution for Romania.
“I took note of the decision of President Nicușor Dan to appoint Eugen Tomac for the formation of the government,” wrote Kelemen Hunor in a post on Facebook.
“We still believe that it is not a good solution for the president to try, in the first stage, to form a technocratic government, especially around a person who does not have parliamentary support,” the UDMR leader continued.
According to him, any executive needs a parliamentary majority to be able to implement his program.
“Otherwise, a majority must be sought for each project and for each decision, and this can make governance very difficult,” explained the UDMR president.
The party led by Eugen Tomac, PMP, did not enter Parliament in the 2024 elections, when the party ran in an alliance, Forța Dreptei, which obtained 2% in the Chamber of Deputies and 1.88% in the Senate. According to Hotnews sources, he resigned from the leadership of the formation on Wednesday, one day before he was appointed to form the new Government.
The UDMR leadership is to meet on Friday, from 10:00 a.m., to discuss the party's position regarding the future government, according to HotNews sources.
