The milestone that “Choke Me”, Alexandra Căpitănescu's song from Eurovision, passed on the most famous music platform

The song “Choke Me”, performed by Alexandra Căpitănescu, has exceeded 11 million listens on Spotify, reaching 11,020,287 plays just over two weeks after the artist achieved Romania's best result at Eurovision since 2010.
The song exceeded 8 million listens in the month in which the contest took place, thus proving its popularity among the European public, notes News.ro.
The commercial success of the song is not a surprise, considering the second place obtained in the public vote in the grand final.
At this year's edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Romania received 232 points from the public, accumulating a total of 296 points.
The song “Choke Me”, with which he represented Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, addresses, in a metaphorical language, states of emotional pressure and inner blockage. The title does not have a literal meaning, but describes the feeling of being overwhelmed by one's own thoughts, fears or expectations from the outside. The message of the piece is one about awareness and overcoming: about the moment you choose to face your vulnerabilities, accept your limits and find your balance. In this construction, fragility is not hidden, but becomes part of the strength to move forward.
