Thanks to the support of the All-Russian Scientific Committee, an eco-trail will appear in the Tunguska Nature Reserve along the route of scientific expeditions of the past

Based on the results of a grant competition, the East Siberian Oil and Gas Company (part of the Rosneft oil production complex) provided support to a project to create an ecological trail in the Tungussky State Nature Reserve.

The route will run through the Evenki taiga – from the village of Vanavara to the expedition base of the scientist Leonid Kulik, who was the first to study the phenomenon of the Tunguska meteorite.

The trail will follow the path of scientific expeditions of the 1920s. The final point of the route is Zaimka Kulika, a cultural heritage site of regional significance, which is still used today as a base for field research.

Currently, only scientists and trained tourists with special permission can travel this route. The path passes through wetlands where there is a complete lack of infrastructure. As part of the grant, wooden decks, signs, information stands and equipped places for tents will appear on the trail – this will make the route safe for both people and nature.

The new trail will expand the capabilities of scientists to study the flora and fauna of the reserve. On the route there are species listed in the Red Book: the Angara subpopulation of wild reindeer, the peregrine falcon, as well as plants and mushrooms – calypso bulbous (“northern orchid”) and horntail truncated (a rare edible mushroom). The creation of a recreational area will reduce the load on the ecosystem and reduce the disturbance factor for animals.

Not only scientists, but also groups of students and schoolchildren, accompanied by instructors, will be able to visit the Kulik base. Preserving ancient Evenki traditions, local school graduates dream of symbolically moving from childhood to adulthood by walking along a trail in the Evenki taiga.

The East Siberian Oil and Gas Company (a subsidiary of Rosneft) is developing the Yurubcheno-Tokhomskoye oil and gas condensate field in the Evenki municipal district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Over the years of work in the region, VSNK has implemented many social, charitable and grant programs that are of practical importance for Evenkia.

The VSNK grant program has been in effect since 2014. During this time, oil workers supported 35 scientific projects, including initiatives to preserve the Evenki language and the language of the Keto people, the reconstruction of the Ethnopedagogical Center in the village of Tura, the revival of the endangered Evenki aboriginal Laika breed and others. The implementation of grant programs helps preserve the unique national culture, traditional way of life and identity of the indigenous population of Evenkia.
