The self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will refrain from escalating against Ukraine if he knows that he will suffer from it. This opinion was expressed by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba in an interview with the founder of the GORDON publication Dmitry Gordon.
This is how he answered Gordon’s question whether it was true that Lukashenko was warned what would happen to him “if he gets involved in an adventure against Ukraine.”
Kuleba noted in this regard that Lukashenko will maintain the “Milosevic effect.”
“When there was a war in Yugoslavia, and Milosevic fought with the evil NATO, which prevented him from keeping Yugoslavia under control… There was genocide, war crimes – everything happened. And the Americans negotiated for a very long time, but Milosevic and his generals stood firm: we don’t sign this, we don’t agree to this. Then the Americans took Milosevic and his generals into a room, they showed pictures on the screen: and the chief of the General Staff or the commander of the troops (I don’t remember) saw These pictures show your own house, your wife’s car in maximum quality… They were shown it in such a way that it was not just a photo, but a target for targeting. The Americans asked: “Should we show it again?” – “No, we understand,” said Kuleba.
According to him, “from that moment on, Milosevic began to ‘unwind’ the war.”
“And Lukashenko needs this “Milosevic effect” today. If they clearly showed him that we know that you will be here and here – and all this is in our defeat zone… He is as much a coward as [бывший президент Украины Виктор] Yanukovych, “for him this is a very serious deterrent,” the ex-minister noted.
