The Ministry of Internal Affairs told how to recognize fake messages on behalf of Telegram. This was reported by TASS with reference to the department for organizing the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The department explained that one of the signs of a fake service account is the “Been recently” status. Official messenger service accounts should not have this status. Also, real Telegram service accounts do not offer users to add them to contacts or send them to a block.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs advises to pay attention to the date of account creation, as well as the country of registration. If an “official Telegram representative” appeared only in 2024 or 2025, or is associated with an unexpected country, this is a reason to doubt its authenticity.
According to the agency, scammers use fake notifications about the imminent deletion of a profile. The user receives a message supposedly from the Telegram administration with a warning about account liquidation and an offer to urgently cancel the procedure.
After following a link or clicking a button, a person can transfer an authorization code to attackers. This is how scammers gain access to your account.
