Royal Navy helicopter crashes in Devon field: Several roads closed and entire area cordoned off

A helicopter of the British Royal Navy (Royal Navy) crashed on Wednesday, June 3, in a field in the county of Devon, in the southwest of England. The incident happened in the Sourton Down area, near the town of Okehampton, according to Devon and Cornwall Police.

The police said that the intervention teams were urgently mobilized to the scene of the accident, and the area was secured.
The British Ministry of Defense confirmed that the aircraft involved belonged to the Royal Navy. According to the Royal Navy, the helicopter crashed at around 4:00am and the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently being investigated.
“It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time,” sent a spokesperson of the institution, according to sky news.
Several roads in the area were closed following the crash, including sections of the A30 and A386, leading to significant traffic disruption.
Transport authorities estimate that the restrictions could remain in place until the middle of the day.
The area where the crash occurred is near a military facility frequently used for helicopter pilot training by the Commando Helicopter Force.
The investigation is ongoing.
