Donald Trump, in a telephone interview with the BBC, was asked whether the upcoming visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Washington could improve relations between Great Britain and the USA.
Donald Trump enthusiastically about Charles III's visit. “He's fantastic”
-Absolutely. He is fantastic, said the American president. — He's a fantastic man. The answer is absolutely yes. I know him well, I have known him for years. He is a brave man, he is a wonderful man. “It will definitely be positive,” he added.
The four-day visit will begin next Monday. Charles III and Queen Camila will come to Washington for two days, where they will meet Donald Trump at the White House. The royal couple will then travel to New York and Virginia.
Tense relations between the US and Great Britain
The visit, which is to celebrate the 250th anniversary of US independence this year, takes place at an unfavorable time for relations between the two countries. The US president criticizes British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for his lack of support in the conflict with Iran. Trump was asked what could improve his relationship with the British prime minister.
“If he opened up the North Sea and if his immigration policies became strong, which they don't currently, they could fix things, but if he doesn't do that, I don't think he has a chance,” Trump said.
However, the US leader emphasized that he did not need help from allies in the conflict with Iran. “But they should have been there. Of course I didn't need them. We destroyed the Iranian armed forces. I didn't need anyone. “I wanted to see if they would get involved,” he explained, describing the appeals for support as “more of a test.”
