Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov appointed Gunduz Mamedov, an officer of the 59th assault brigade of unmanned systems named after Yakov Handzyuk, as deputy head of the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. ZN.UA sources in the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff reported this on June 3.
In his new position, Mamedov will head the established department for documenting violations of the law of armed conflicts within the Supreme Court.
We are talking about a unit that will be engaged in recording, collecting and storing information about war crimes committed directly in the combat zone. Its functions will also include systematization of digital evidence and its transfer to investigative authorities for use in Ukrainian and international courts.
This is a structure that should provide a systematic and standardized collection of evidence, modeled on the practices of NATO countries, where military police play a major role in documenting events on the battlefield.
Previously, Mamedov worked in the prosecutor’s office system and supervised the direction of international crimes in the Office of the Prosecutor General, and after the start of the full-scale invasion of the aggressor country Russia, he joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
