The Romanian national mini-football team will perform tonight, from 21:30, in the quarter-finals of the European Mini-football Championship organized in Bratislava, Slovakia. The opponent of the “tricolors” will be Serbia itself, the titular champion of Europe and the team that defeated the Romanians in the final of the previous continental tournament, on penalty kicks.

  • The match can be watched in live text format on GSP.ro and will be broadcast on TV by Digi Sport 2

After a near-perfect run in the group stage and a show of strength in the round of 16, Virgil Bejenaru's men are just two wins away from another continental final.

The stakes of the duel are huge. The winner will qualify for the semi-finals of the competition and will meet one of the Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, Montenegro or Kazakhstan in the battle for a place in the final act.

  • For Romania, the confrontation with Serbia also represents an opportunity for revenge after the 2024 European final, dramatically lost in the penalty shootout. It was 1-1 at the end of regular time. 22 penalty kicks were executed, the Serbians prevailed 10-9.

Romania comes after a recital in the eighth

The national team prepared by Virgil Bejenaru impressed in the group stage. Romania started with a dramatic draw against Spain, score 1-1, after the Iberians equalized in the last minute of the game.

Two convincing wins followed: 1-0 against England and 3-0 against Georgia, results that saw them top Group D with 7 points.

The excellent form continued in the round of 16, where the “tricolors” had no emotion in front of Austria. Romania prevailed categorically, score 7-0, in one of the most spectacular matches of the competition.

The Austrians had finished 3rd in an extremely difficult group alongside Azerbaijan, France and Italy, but had no chance against an in-form Romania side.

Serbia, spectacular comeback in the eighth

On the other hand, Serbia had a much more complicated mission in the first elimination phase.

The reigning champions were led 2-0 by Greece, but managed an impressive comeback to win 4-2, once again demonstrating the experience and strength of a team accustomed to high-pressure matches.

The Serbians arrived in Bratislava as the trophy holders and are one of the main favorites to win the competition.

Romania remains one of the favorites of the tournament

Even if Serbia is the title champion, Romania continues to be one of the big favorites of the competition.

The “Tricolori” are the most successful national team in the history of the European mini-football championship, with six trophies won, and they reached the final in the previous edition.

In addition, Romania also has a world title in its record, won in 2023, a performance that confirms the status of a force in European and world mini-football.
