Laurentiu Reghecampf (50 years old) is going through an incredible situation in Kenya, where his team, Al-Hilal Omdurman, is going to play against Police FC, in the first leg of the 2nd preliminary round of the African Champions League.
The match, which must start at 15:00, Romanian time, was in danger of being postponed due to the incidents that happened in the capital of Kenya, at the funeral of the former prime minister, Raila Odinga.
His supporters, who came from the opposition party in the African country, started a conflict with law enforcement, resulting in tear gas and warning shots.
The match of Laurentiu Reghecampf's team will be played behind closed doors after the incidents in Kenya
“Following today's incidents, we are in constant contact with the authorities, the Football Association of Kenya and representatives of the Confederation of African Football.
Disputing the match with Al-Hilal Omdurman depends on the approval of these forums. In addition, we are looking for a suitable stadium to host this match”, was the initial statement from Police FC, following the conflicts in the capital of Kenya.
Police FC requested a 24-hour postponement of the match, but Al-Hilal Omdurman refused from the start.
“Our delegation is safe in Nairobi. We are monitoring the situation in Kenya's capital. We are in touch with the Confederation of African Football observer who is also monitoring the situation.
We rejected the Kenyan club's request to postpone the match by 24 hours. We also refuse to play the match at another stadium without the approval of the Confederation of African Football“, was the statement of the team prepared by Laurentiu Reghecampf.
The Confederation later decided that the match would not be played at the Kenya Police Sacco Stadium but at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, but without spectators.
“We are working on a method to return the money back to supporters who purchased tickets for this match,” read the Kenyan club's latest statement.
Police FC's domestic league match against Sofapaka, scheduled for October 19, has been postponed.
