US troops will remain in Poland. “We have a political declaration”

On Monday, in the TVP Info program, Bosacki was asked about the new US National Security Strategy published last week. In this context, he assessed that the US was leaning “either towards isolationist tendencies, or if the US is thinking about the great world game, it sees its rival in China and its theater of operations in the Pacific and Asia rather than in Europe.” – This is a new situation, especially since it is followed by actions, such as the withdrawal of American troops from the European Union – he added.

When asked whether American troops will remain in Poland and whether there is a final declaration from the US on this matter, Bosacki confirmed. – We have a political declaration, both submitted to the government and the presidential palace, that this will be the case – he emphasized.

Will the differences in views of the US and Europe affect Poland's security?

What are the priorities in the new US National Security Strategy?

What does Poland expect from the US in the context of European security?

“We want clarification of the US attitude towards Europe

– What Poland needs right now is certainty that NATO is functioning efficiently, and I think we have it, but also that any differences of opinion between Europeans and the United States will not affect our security, he added.

To the comment that the US National Security Strategy could be perceived as a “coup in US diplomacy”, Bosacki replied that “we really need to ask Americans when they are serious.” As he said, there are “things that worry” in the presented US position, although – as he added – there are also some that make us happy, including: mentioning Poland as a model ally.

— We are clarifying with the Americans what their position really is. We want to “clarify” America's attitude towards Europe and its European allies, he said.

The published new US National Security Strategy, which is a document setting the priorities of US foreign and security policy, emphasizes that the US policy towards Europe should treat, among others, as a priority: returning to strategic stability in relations with Russia, enabling Europe to take responsibility for its own defense and preventing further NATO expansion.

The US National Security Strategy, the preparation of which is ordered by Congress, is the first of three expected documents intended to set the directions of US policy. The next steps are to be the National Defense Strategy prepared by the Pentagon and the Global Posture Review, i.e. a revision of the deployment of US forces in the world. Their final effect may be changes in the deployment of US troops, including in Europe, where a reduction in forces is expected. However, according to President Donald Trump's promises, this will not apply to Poland.
