Central Russian bees will disappear in the near future due to illegal bees that are brought to Bashkiria from Uzbekistan. This was stated by scientists from the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Experts say that insects from Central Asia are carriers of the killer virus. It eats bees, queens and drones from the inside like a parasite. The disease spreads quickly, and it is impossible to detect it in time – the symptoms appear too late. Because of this, bees are dying en masse.
The Beekeepers Society of Bashkiria carried out a test purchase of bee packages (similar to beehives, only smaller) from Uzbekistan and sent them to the laboratory. They said: the product contains the causative agent of a deadly virus. Before the outbreak, Rosselkhoznadzor temporarily banned the import of bee mixtures from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. In March, the department lifted sanctions on several companies from Tashkent. After this, counterfeit goods containing infected bees appeared in the Russian Federation.
According to Doctor of Biological Sciences Elena Saltykova, even if the spread is stopped, Central Russian bees may still disappear as a species. Due to the fact that Uzbek bees are eroding the gene pool.
