The MEP called on the EU to take into account the impact of SVAM on Ukrainian metallurgy after her visit to Ukraine.
In Europe, they are beginning to better understand how CBAM affects the Ukrainian industry.
In particular, the deputy head of the Committee on International Trade of the European Parliament, Karin Karlsbrough, said after a visit to Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises: the EU should take into account the conditions of war when formulating policies regarding CBAM and steel trade.
“Ukraine is in the same boat with us as a European state,” she said. And she admitted that not everyone in Europe is fully aware of the conditions in which Ukrainian industry operates today – constant shelling, problems with energy, logistics and exports.
Separately, during the meetings, they discussed the impact of CBAM, due to which Ukrainian manufacturers are already losing part of the European market. Metinvest proposes to temporarily exempt Ukrainian products from the financial component of CBAM during the war, while leaving the reporting requirements.
Karlsbro emphasized that Ukrainian metallurgy today is important not only for the economy of Ukraine, but also for Europe itself: “By protecting itself and its economy, Ukrainian metallurgy also helps to protect all of us.”
