Sorana Cîrstea found out her opponent in the quarters of Roland Garros. The chance of a rematch with a world top 10 name

Sorana Cîrstea will face Mirra Andreeva in the quarters of the French Open, on Tuesday, at a time that has not yet been announced by the organizers. For the Russian, it is the third year in a row that she has qualified for this stage of the tournament.

Cîrstea (18 WTA, 36 years old) met Andreeva (8 WTA, 19 years old) only once, even on clay, in April, in Linz, where the Russian prevailed in the decider, score 7-6 / 4-6 / 6-2. She would also eventually win the tournament.

At only 19 years old, Mirra Andreeva is one of the most promising players of the new wave and already has WTA 1000 level titles in her records, won in 2025 in Indian Wells and Dubai.

In Paris, her most important performance so far is reaching the semifinals, the phase in which she stopped at the 2024 edition, defeated by Jasmine Paolini. In 2025 she was eliminated in the quarters after a failure with Lois Boisson.

On Sunday, Jil Teichmann passed in the round of 16, score 6-3 / 6-2.

Sorana Cîrstea, in one of the best moments of her career

The Romanian qualified for the quarterfinals of Roland Garros for the second time in her career, 17 years away from the moment when she managed this feat for the first time.

Sorana Cîrstea comes after the semi-final in Rome, a tournament in which she achieved the first victory of her career in front of a reigning world leader, Aryna Sabalenka. The course at the Foro Italico propelled her into the WTA top 20, also a first.

In the matches played so far at Roland Garros 2026, she got past Xiyu Wang in the round of 16, Solana Sierra in the 3rd round, where she won a double 6-0, Eva Lys in the 2nd round, and Ksenia Efremova in the opening round.

Our national team has never made it past the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament. She also played in the penultimate act at the US Open in 2023.
