Nicușor Dan calls for the strengthening of Romania's military reserve: “We are living in times that redefine security”

The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, sent a message on Sunday, May 31, on the occasion of Military Reservist Day, in which he spoke about the essential role of the military in reserve and in retirement for the security and defense of the country.

The head of state sent a message of appreciation for “loyalty, devotion and sacrifice” made by military personnel throughout their careers, emphasizing that Romania is going through a period marked by complex challenges at the regional and global level.

“We are living in difficult times, marked by challenges that are redefining security at the regional, European and global level. In this context, the allocation of resources and the strengthening of the national military reserve strengthens the military force and the capacity of defense and deterrence”, the president sent, according to a press release from the Presidential Administration.

Nicușor Dan emphasized that Romania's membership in NATO and the strategic partnership with the United States represent the country's main security guarantees.

“Close cooperation with NATO allies and the Strategic Partnership with the United States represent Romania's most solid security guarantees in history, obtained including through the involvement of military reservists”, he specified.

Tribute to military reservists

In his message, Nicușor Dan thanked the military in reserve and retirement for the activity carried out in domestic and international missions, including in theaters of operations such as Afghanistan, Iraq, the Western Balkans, but also in Africa and Asia.

“You made an essential contribution to the prestige enjoyed by the Romanian Army in the European Union, in NATO and the UN”, the president conveyed.

He also highlighted the role of reservists in training new generations of soldiers.

“You are landmarks that our society needs to strengthen its resilience and respond effectively to today's challenges,” the head of state also sent.

The President sent wishes of health and appreciation to all military personnel in reserve and retirement, as well as to the members of their associative structures, ending the message with “Happy birthday!”.
