Disaster for Arsenal in the Champions League! » Only one club is worse

This is the second final lost by the “gunners”, after the one in 2006, against Barcelona. Then, the English lost after extra time, score 1-2.

Only Atletico Madrid are worse than Arsenal in the Champions League finals

Only one club has lost more Champions League finals without lifting the most prestigious inter-club trophy. It is about Atletico Madrid, who came close to the ultimate glory in 1974, 2014 and 2016. Reims and Valencia also have two lost finals, just like Arsenal.

From a historical point of view, the “gunners” cannot boast of a good success rate even in the finals of European interclub competitions. The north London club have won trophies just twice – in 1970 in the Fair Cities Cup and in 1994 in the Cup Winners' Cup.

The number of lost finals is six – twice each in the European Champions Cup / Champions League, the Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Cup / Europa League.

Former international Gică Craioveanu “charged” Arsenal's football: “Modest, modest match. Football increases in value when there are opportunities. Tell me 3 great opportunities in the whole match. (…)

Arteta is the new Simeone of modern football. Bad game! In the 90th minute, when he changed the strategy and wanted to play, they played football. They had some good moments of play. Put Zubimendi in, he's been your best player all season, he knows how to handle the ball.”

From the statistics it is clear who controlled the game. Very little for a Champions League finalist, but that was probably Arteta's strategy, to stay in the box and not give them spaces, not to risk counterattacks.
