The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Krasnoyarsk Territory advises everyone who goes for a walk or hike in the forest in an unfamiliar area to register their route with the department.
An increase in the number of hikes, trips to forests, gathering wild plants, and weekend walks will likely lead to loss of life, the Ministry of Emergency Situations says.
People of all ages are lost, but older people are the most likely to get lost—up to 70%. Before going out into the forest, you need to think through your route and get your bearings on the area. It is also necessary to warn your loved ones about the time of return.
Hiking trips must be registered in advance; it will not take much time, but in an emergency it will help save your life and the lives of those close to you, the department reminds. You can register your trip not only on the website of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, but also at local fire and rescue units.
When going into the forest or hiking, you must have matches, a flashlight, water, medicine, warm clothes, and provisions with you.
