Since the beginning of 2026, not a single new foreign brand has opened in Russia – this is an anti-record, even during the lockdown period of 2020 there were no such indicators, Vedomosti reports with reference to the report consulting company CORE.XP.

In five months of 2025, at least 9 brands were launched (including the Spanish Pdpaola and the Italian Kappa), and in total in 2025 – 12 versus 24 a year earlier.

Other consultants also do not record new exits in the first quarter of 2026, with the exception of the Austrian equipment manufacturer Zanier (through Sportmaster), but this is only limited distribution.

Reasons: macroeconomic background, decrease in consumer confidence (down to −12%), drop in shopping center traffic (by 2% in January-April 2026 and 25–26% below pre-crisis 2019), as well as disruption of logistics due to the conflict in the Middle East (increase in delivery costs by 30–50%). The exception is Korean cosmetics; by the end of the year, about 10 more new beauty brands are expected.

The Russian market has changed a lot: the vacated niches have been occupied by local brands and players from friendly countries. Moreover, since the beginning of 2026, at least seven international brands have left Russia (Turkish Les Benjamins, Karaca Home, etc.). The remaining foreign companies are developing carefully – through marketplaces and distributors. By the end of the year, no more than 10 new foreign brands are predicted to launch.
