27-year-old Ukrainian presenter Olga Bura died 22 years ago during an accident that occurred on the night of May 29 in Kyiv. The online publication “GORDON” tells the chronology of the events of that tragic night.
A fateful trip to Sumy and the last call to my husband
Bura went to Sumy by invitation – she was offered to become the host of the concert. The Facts publication wrote that before the trip, Buroy’s husband, Ukrainian lawyer Sergei Vlasenko, was looking for a driver to drive her SUV. His personal driver volunteered to go to Sumy.
As the presenter’s friend and colleague Vlasta Shovkovskaya told the publication, already approaching Kyiv, Bura called her husband and warned that she would soon be home.
“Probably then she unfastened her seat belt. Usually Olya always fastened her seat belt. Her airbag didn’t even work. Only on the driver’s side. But he couldn’t be saved either,” said Shovkovskaya.
“Ukrainian Pravda” reported that at the entrance to Kyiv from the Boryspil highway, the driver lost control, as a result of which the car collided with a concrete bumper. The car was then thrown onto the concrete fence of a flower bed. Borax was thrown out of the car and died instantly. The driver died in the ambulance.
I was in a hurry to go home
Shovkovskaya said that a few days before Bur’s death, she and her husband went to look at a plot of land that they were going to buy, and they planned to purchase a new car for the weekend.
“Ole always liked original things, and she wanted something original. She didn’t even know what. She liked driving. She got a thrill from it. As well as from the fact that she was sitting in a beautiful car. In general, Olya was in a hurry to go home that night,” noted Buroy’s friend.
She added that the presenter died two months before her first wedding anniversary – Bura married Vlasenko on July 26, 2003 after four years of relationship.
The star loved by millions
On May 27, 2026, Shovkovskaya dedicated a post to her friend.
“We were friends, but for me she was a star! A star who was loved by millions – crazy ratings, a lot of fans,” she wrote. “You are a star! You will remain so. Forever. May you be remembered, friend.”
“One of the most beautiful women on our television,” they responded in the comments.
“Indeed, every Ukrainian remembers her, bright, gentle and sincere. The main thing is that she was remembered as real, she did not work on camera, she lived, unlike today’s artificial TV stars,” the star is recalled in the comments.
