December 28, 1921

The White Guard units of General Sakharov began an attack on the In station. The battle was difficult for the “red” fighters. Units of the People's Revolutionary Army of the Far Eastern Republic under the command of K. Blucher repelled the advance of the White Guards.

In memory of those distant and glorious events, on December 28, 1986, a rally was held dedicated to the opening of a monument to the people’s army soldiers who fell in the Battle of Insk.

In the book of memory “Immortality of the names of the land of Volochaevskaya” (6+) this historical fact is described as follows:

“At the rally (12+), the first secretary of the Smidovichi district committee of the CPSU V.P. Veselko said in her speech:

“We have gathered today to unveil a monument to those who, in these December days 65 years ago, here on Inskaya land, showed heroism and perseverance. In a difficult, bloody battle, the People’s Army and partisans stopped the advance of the White Guard troops. 150 “red” fighters laid down their heads for the bright future of the Far Eastern region. Here, on the spot where the monument stood today, there is a mass grave. Their feat, like the feat of millions of people who gave their lives for a just cause will forever live in our hearts…”

From a speech at a rally by Louise Iosifovna Shterenshtein, a famous sculptor and author of a monument to the People’s Army soldiers.

“This battle, which took place on December 28, 1921, became one of the decisive blows to the White Guards and interventionists dug in in the Far East. We dedicated a sculptural composition to this event, which we called “For the Power of the Soviets.” The monument is made of copper, its height is five meters. The monument itself consists of 3 figures of fighters and partisans, immortalizes the climax of the battle, in which massive heroism and courage of the fighters for the power of the Soviets. The sculptural group will be installed on a high pedestal.”

This structure was installed on the initiative of the Smidovichi district executive committee using public funds.

December 28, 1937

The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) on December 28, 1937, under the heading “What's new in the region” wrote:

On December 15, the construction of a new school No. 8 in Birobidzhan was completed, the building was put into operation.

In Birobidzhan, preparatory work for the construction of a pedagogical institute was completed in 1938.

The People's Commissariat of Education of the RSFSR draws up construction projects and estimates.

Construction of the institute will begin in the first quarter of 1938. The first stage of the institute – one academic building and one dormitory for students – will be ready in 1938.

For the construction of the institute, a construction site has been allocated between 4 and 5 kilometers along the Birofeldskaya road. The soil research work ends there.

For the construction of the institute, 100 thousand bricks and a number of other materials were prepared.

In the first quarter of 1938, construction of the central library in Birobidzhan was resumed.

The project and estimates have been drawn up and are in the People's Commissariat of Education for approval. “200 thousand bricks have been prepared for the construction of the library.”

According to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR dated December 28, 1938, the Blucher Village Council was renamed Lenin.
