A drone crashed on the night of Thursday to Friday, around 02:00, on a block in the city of Galați, the authorities announced. The impact was followed by an explosion and a fire in the apartment located on the 10th floor of the apartment building.
It is the first incident of this kind in Romania, in recent years, after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
“A short time ago, in the municipality of Galați, a drone crashed on a residential block, the impact being followed by an explosion and the outbreak of a fire in an apartment located on the 10th floor. Forces and means of the ISU Galati intervened on the scene to limit the effects of the incident and secure the area, supported by other forces of the MAI and specialized teams of the SRI. Two people who were in the apartment on fire self-evacuated. Up to this moment, no victims have been identified,” ISU Galati said in a press release.
The residents of Galati received a RO-ALERT message, immediately followed by a loud bang.
The drone crashed directly on the roof of a BR block in the Stirex area, according to Monitorul de Galati. Policemen and firefighters arrived at the scene immediately, and immediately isolated the perimeter for the safety of the citizens.
The mission is dynamic, stated the authorities, who distributed images from the scene of the intervention.
Later during the night, ISU Galati reported that two people with excoriations are receiving medical attention on the spot.
“At this time, no other drones have been identified,” according to authorities.
Meanwhile, the fire on the block was extinguished.
“Also, the research team, specialized in explosions, made up of policemen from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the National Institute of Criminalistics, from the IGPR, is on its way to the scene of the intervention”, the ISU also transmitted.
