The husband of the general prosecutor Cristina Chiriac, seconded from Iași to Bucharest. What position did he get?

The section for judges of the Superior Council of the Magistracy (CSM) decided on Thursday the secondment of Judge Adrian Chiriac to the Judicial Inspection for a period of three years. Adrian Chiriac is the husband of Cristina Chiriac, the Prosecutor General of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, and currently holds the position of vice-president of the Iași Court of Appeal.

The secondment of Judge Adrian Chiriac was requested by the leadership of the Judicial Inspection, according to the agenda of the Section for Judges of the SCM.

The decision regarding the secondment of Judge Adrian Chiriac to the Judicial Inspection was voted favorably by nine of the ten members of the Section for Judges, with one of the judges from the CSM opposing.

HotNews contacted Judge Chiriac for a point of view, but he did not want to make official clarifications.

The Judicial Inspectorate, led by judge Roxana Petcu, has been accused in recent years of acting with a double standard, of sanctioning inconvenient magistrates who signaled the problems in the justice system, and of ignoring the slippages of loyal magistrates.

Adrian Chiriac is in his second term as vice-president of the Iași Court of Appeal, and over the years he has held leadership positions at the courts in Vaslui, where he began his career as a judge.

A graduate of the Faculty of Law of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in Iasi, Chiriac graduated from the National Institute of Magistracy in 2006, starting as a judge at the Vaslui Court. He was president of the Vaslui Court from 2008 to 2011, then vice president of the Vaslui Court. In 2012, for a short period of time, he worked at the Galati Court of Appeal. Since 2015, he has been working at the Iași Court of Appeal, being a judge in the Criminal Section.

In recent years, Judge Chiriac has been part of the commissions regarding the capacity exams, respectively the promotion contests organized by the Superior Council of the Magistracy.

Cristina Chiriac, Adrian Chiriac's wife, was appointed general prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice in mid-April. She received a negative opinion from the CSM.

The prosecutors from the SCM criticized her performance during the interview, on the grounds that she did not show a clear and concrete knowledge of the realities that all structures within the Public Ministry are currently facing. The section for prosecutors reproached him for having a hesitant performance and for failing to demonstrate the managerial skills, professional authority and strategic vision that the position of prosecutor general entails.

The appointment of Cristina Chiriac as head of the General Prosecutor's Office aroused widespread criticism in the public space, being accused of keeping the evidence from the file of the former bishop of Huși, Cornel Onilă, in a drawer.
