The statements, communicated by the Chinese side, come against the backdrop of tense relations between Cuba and Washington and the increasingly visible rapprochement between Beijing and Havana.

The meeting between Wang Yi and Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, held in New York, did not have the air of a spectacular event in itself, but it brought yet another confirmation of how China and Cuba are strengthening their relationship in an increasingly tense international context. The two officials met on the sidelines of activities at the United Nations, where bilateral talks are often held on the sidelines of major global meetings.

Wang Yi spoke of the “resistance of the Cuban people” in the face of pressure from the United States. The wording, typical of Beijing's diplomatic language, is not accidental: it reflects China's constant line of criticizing unilateral sanctions and rejecting what it considers to be external interventions in the internal affairs of other states, according to Agrepres.

Behind these statements is a well-known and long-standing context. Cuba continues to face economic and trade restrictions imposed by the United States, and these measures have become a central point of political discourse in Havana for years.

In this framework, the diplomatic support coming from China is not only symbolic, but also part of a political and economic relationship that has gradually strengthened, as both states have intensified their international collaboration.

For the Cuban side, the meeting represented yet another opportunity to emphasize the close relationship with China, at a time when Cuba's economy remains under pressure and relations with Washington have not experienced a significant de-escalation. In this context, Havana relies on the external partnerships strengthened in recent years, and Beijing occupies a central place in this diplomatic architecture.
