11 soldiers injured after three Piranha 5 armored personnel carriers collided on DN 1C, in Sălaj
A serious road accident occurred on Thursday evening, May 28, on DN 1C, near Bizuşa‑Băi, Sălaj county, where three Piranha 5 armored personnel carriers of the Romanian Army collided while traveling in convoy. As a result of the impact, 11 soldiers were injured, requiring the intervention of medical crews.
According to the information sent by the representatives of the 813th Infantry Battalion, the incident took place around 20:30, in the direction of Dej – Baia Mare, according to PresaSM.
The first checks point to the failure to observe the legal distance between military vehicles as the cause, which led to a chain collision.
“Today, 28.05.2026, at around 20:30, at the exit from Bizuşa‑Băi, Sălaj county, on the Dej – Baia Mare direction, there was a road accident involving three Piranha 5 armored personnel carriers belonging to a military column from the 813th Infantry Battalion”stated the officials of the unit.
Ten of the wounded soldiers were transported to the Zalău County Emergency Hospital for investigations and specialized treatment. Their condition has not been made public at this time.
Police, Ambulance and ISU crews intervened on the scene, providing first aid and securing the area for operations. Traffic on DN 1C was temporarily restricted, being resumed after the investigations were completed and the road was cleared.
Army representatives announced that the transporters suffered minor damage, and the drivers were tested with the breathalyzer, the results were negative. An investigation has been opened to establish the exact circumstances of the accident, which occurred during a routine training and travel activity.
